My new hub has arrived but the cable doesn't fit into the phone line and there isn't an adapator in the box

ISPs don't ship plug-in microfilters with their routers any more, as these were a significant contribution to e-waste given they aren't required at any address with a filtered master socket and so were increasingly never used.  They are easily sourced elsewhere for a few pounds.
