Afternoon all, long time follower first time poster.
I only moved over to Sky a few months back - I have FTTP with the newest Max Router - 1gig speed.
I have a hard-wired in alarm system that only works on 2.4ghz WiFi channel. All my previous internet providers had routers that allowed the split of channels which was great. In the process of moving to Sky, I asked the advisor over the phone if this was possible with the WiFi Max router and was told 'yes it is'.
Once the installation took place, Sky tech advisors walked me through how to add devices onto the 2.4hgz channel and then was left to my own devices, and I presumed things were working. Fast forward to today - WiFi was running slow, Ookla checked it and only pulling 111-100mbps on WiFi. Went into the advanced settings and found the only channel enabled was 2.4ghz. I couldn't anable the 5ghz channel.
Phoned Sky and I was told - 'on the new Max Router you cannot split channels, you can only have one or the other'. The advisers went away, listened to the call and phoned me back offering a paltry compensation - or full termination of my agreement for free. I do not want to leave Sky, my deal is excellent and I like everything that goes with it. The other suggestion was getting my own Wi-Fi mesh system or router and using the WiFi Max as a modem. Which is where my question is.
Sub-£100 (or a bit more if it fits my needs) can anyone recommend a Wi-Fi 6 system/router that can split channels that will 100% work with the Wifi Max Router. Final question - does the Wifi Max work in a modem mode or how does that work too? Apologies I presume this has been discussed before but I'm looking for current info from people on the forums. Really appreciate any assistance, happy to answer any/all questions. 😁
