Low connection speed

hi there, I'm having troubles with the connection speed to my laptop. I have checked the Wi-Fi systems in the area and with the router itself. 

my connection is currently 2.4ghz there should be 5-6. please can you explain why this is happening? 
I've not experienced the tissue before, but I've been having problems for the last week. our internal IT have been looking at it as I've had this problem for awhile now. everything is showing that there shouldn't be a problem with the broadband. but it is disrupting my daily work. teams and documents keep crashing and I need this sorted as a matter of urgency. you now no longer have a call line so I've not been able to reach anybody over the phone. my phone my other laptop and other connections needed in the house seem to be working fine. I am questioning the speed however. 

please can you treat this as a matter of urgency.

@Katiejs inthink uou msybe confuusing the frequency of the WiFi connection which is 2.4GHz and 5GHz with the speed or more properly the bandwidth which is measured in Megabits oer seconf (Mb/s). Although the two are linked they are not the same thing. Thecspedd of a WiFi connection is mainly determined bybthe distance from your hub and more imprtantly what solid objects the signal has to pass through on the way. WiFi signals lose power when passing through a solid objects like walls the denser the material the more power lost. The 5GHz band can carry more data but loses more power than the lower frequency 2.4GHz band which has a longer range. 

To improve the WiFi dignal to a laptop either you need to move nearer the hub ideally in the same room or invest in extra WiFi equipment. Sky sell their WiFi Max bundle ths t can provide up to 3 extenders see https://www.sky.com/broadband/wifi-max

I already have a booster in the same room for this exact reason so it can't be that either. Can there be a diagnostic run? I've not had this issue before...

Boosters are intended to be mid-point devices: having one in the same room as the WiFi source or client is typically counterproductive.

It's not in the same room. Router is downstairs and the booster is upstairs

But is the booster in the room which has poor WiFi?

The point is it cannot 'boost' something which isn't arriving: a more accurate name would be 'repeater' or 'relay'.
