Loft
I've recently had the loft converted. My son has moved into that room, WiFi reaches but can be extremely slow.. We've put a booster on the landing, hasn't made a great difference (maybe the one I've got isn't that good) can anyone suggest a good booster or should I have the router moved, and would there be a cost involved if so, or shall I run a lan cable, which sounds the best option, bit also quite tricky if the room location.
thank you

Re: Loft
@Karlina Those extenders are not to bad, and as it was a 2 part question above the 2nd you have not replied too, if you are finding that the booster is not operating as speed wise then have you moved it a little closer to where the hub is?

Re: Loft
@Karlina The sky router is it White or Black, have your son speed test his wireless connection, i would not expect much north off a 100mb/s using and connecting through that extender.

Re: Loft
@Karlina Then either test with another device, ie your mobile on the landing and connected to the booster, speed test and see what you get. You may wish to check sometimes those little ones put the _ext after SSID connection name.

@Karlina having the booster close to the hub is totally pointless and indeed can make things worse. As the two units can interfere with each other. Boisters need to be placed rougly halfway between the hub and where you need the booster which coukd be difficullt for a loft coneverssion. One suggestion is to buy a Powerline networking kit which uses the mains wiring to carry the data. One adapter plugs into thecwall near tge hub and links by the included ethernet cable. The other plugs into a wall socket in the loft and could connectvto your booster by ethernet.

Re: Loft
@Karlina As @Chrisee has pointed out if you are looking at powerline as an option, then do get the Wireless/Wired combined option and ditch or return your extender back to amazon, no point in possibly having more issues. Powerline is not the fastest but do keep away from plugging into extension cords, they absolutely do not like and performance takes a major dive.

Re: Loft
Thank you Chrisee
The router is downstairs in the living room, the extender is up on the next floor on the landing, then the pc is obviously on next level up in the loft .I have been looking at the power line option.
