Internet working but certain sites blocked - NOT a Shield Issue

Hi All,

I have the white sky router with Sky router.

The internet speeds are good and seem to be up constantly.

My issue is on certain devices when connected to the wifi certain websites wont load ie BBC.co.uk or Sky.com but when I do an internet speed test it is showing good speed and connection and also it will load certain sites such as Facebook or Google Maps and even google to search but when you click inot the sites it doesnt load and says it is timed out or connection lost error message. I have attached a non Sky extender and if I click on that the device will load the sites it hadnt previously even though that is obviosuly going thrpough the router. It has happened on iPhones and laptops. Alkso th esam edevices on certain days will work without any issues so I don't think it is a device issue. I have set all settings on Sky router back to standard settings and have treid factory re-set on the router several times. I had a gebneralk Sky engineer out on Friday and he couldn't woirk it out. They have booked a WIFI specialist to come out but not until 23rd. It feels like it is a router or network setting but I can not work out what.

If anyone has had the same issue or can suggest a solution I would greatly appreciate it.

@slucas3636 it sounds like a possible issue with the DNS system thst resolves web addresses into IP addresses. As a test try adding a public DNS address to the network settings on a device like a phone. I use Google's public DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if that works the issue is an issue with the server node Sky have used to connect your line. 

Powering down the hub for at least an hour ususlly will change the node.

Hi @Chrisee thanks for for that i tried adding the public DNS below but still got the same behaviour on the phone. I willk try the power down for an hour tonight and see if that has any effect. It seems strange that it will work one day and not the next on the different devices. Also can not work out why some sites such as Facebook or google maps work but then BBC wont.

@slucas3636 if it isnt a DNS issue it is very odd as there are no other reports of issues in contacting refular sites which there would be if there was a more general issue. Is your network just a hub abd devices as you can hit issues with third party devices like managed switches and routers acting as wifi extenders etc.as if not properly set up they can block taffic.

Yes, just a Sky router (white)  with some wired Ethernet connections and a Sky booster. I have had to add my own extender that links back to the router so that these devices work. It makes no sense to me. I am hoping the wifi engineer they send out will be able to work iot out but thats not for two weeks.All very frustrating.

Was this ever resolved as I'm having exactly the same issue? The power went out yesterday and since then I've been having issues. I've rebooted the device several times and after a factory reset finally have Internet again but the bbc and sky websites, as an example, just don't load...

It turned out to be a WiFi extender I had attached. Once I took it out of the sky router all worked fine. I actually plugged the extender to a plug type wireless extender it worked and didn't cause the issue. I found it out by taking out all wired items from the router and adding them back one at a time. It worked until I added the extender. Might be worth taking out any wired items reboot and see if that works. Good luck. Very frustrating.

Thank you. I've managed to fix it with a couple more reboots. I have no idea what caused my issue as I have nothing wired in, although how a wifi extender can cause that is very confusing! Anyway all back to normal.
