Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

I often stay up to the AM hours and every AM my sky internet goes down every single damn time in the AM. The sky mini box goes dead. It will come on again much later in the AM. I have heard the excuses given that something in my home is the cause of a lost signal. That is a load of hogwash.

@Mraitch if either your Sky Q main box or the Q mini are running in the default power saving "eco" mode they go into a low power mode that also disables their wifi from 2.30am to 5.45am. Your hub stays on during this period so if the hub shows continous connection then that is the probable issue  see Find your Sky Broadband router statistics.

Changing the power saving modes on both boxes to "active" or "none" solves that issue. Sky will often force a reboot overnight so you may dtill lose connection for 5 minutes or so.

Occasional loss of service in the early morning hours can be caused by network maintenance. Another interuption can be caused by the DLM system resetting which usually happens after 3am etc

When you have exhausted the most likely cause for issues the less the likely but possible issues like interference should be looked into. In the past the range of things that have been found to block an internet connection is extremly long from Christmas lights, through dodgy microwaves to a faulty street light. However the most likely should of course be eliminated first.

They are doing the same to me, turning the WiFi off at 12 am and I can't even do anything

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

Mine has started loosing Internet recently at around 02:45. It is not just wifi, but wired connections too. My TV, IKEA Tradfri, PC, Sound System, PS4, SkyQ and NAS box are all connected to a small powered hub via Ethernet and that hub connected directly to the sky hub. If SkyQ is set to Eco, then the Ethernet goes down with the SkyQ box at 02:45. As soon as I turn the SkyQ box back on, the Ethernet comes back. I can watch the connections all return on the powered hub. If I leave the SkyQ box set to None in the power settings this does not happen and the Ethernet stays alive.

@Distinctly That to me sounds like you have connected the switch to the Sky Q box rather than the router.

The router stays online 24/7 (aside from when there is maintenance) and Ethernet never switches off (check you don't have "power efficient ethernet" enabled, which it isn't by default anyway).

It's the Sky Q boxes that go into deep sleep between 0245 and 0545, so if you've connected the switch the Q box then of course the ethernet will drop as the the box is turning its Wi-Fi off....incidently the Ethernet on the Sky Q boxes is really meant for connecting back to the router rather than to support other devices.

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

I do have the SkyQ box connected to the switch, and the switch to the router. In any normal network that is a valid setup. As I said, the Ethernet is dropping with the SkyQ box, not the router itself. I can still use wireless connections but the SkyQ box when going into Eco mode seems to kill the Ethernet. I have tried another switch but it appears something specific to Eco mode that is killing the Ethernet connections. If I power off the SkyQ box there is no issue with Ethernet, nor is there a problem if the SkyQ box is set to Active instead of Eco. The Eco mode seems to be the only common denominator.

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

I am having the same issue as this. I have however isolated mine down to just the LAN 1 port switching itself off between say 2.30am and 6am. I have a SKY router that runs my internet and a Sky Q box running my TV with a couple of Mini's too. I have a hard wired house with a couple of unifi access points for the WiFi.

I am currently writing this at 5:17am and connected to the Sky WiFi directly into the sky router where as my unifi access points wifi says no internet as does anything hard wired throughout my network of a couple of switches all leading back to the LAN 1 port.

I know for a fact as have watched it that my hard wired devices are going from no internet to internet as soon as i hit 6am. Just trying to workout if it is designed this way by Sky or a fault but most probably the former. I have checked and my Lan port say energy efficient ethernet is set to disabled.

I have also checked and found that there are zero lights on the network port of ethernet 1 flashing where as ethernet port 2 is flashing away nicely ( I have an old netgear router in AP mode plugged into it which provides a WiFi network to some older devices I haven't moved over yet) so definately the LAN port 1 going into power save.

If you are not using Ethernet Lan port 2 then you could try switching to that? I have to try and find out why Sky are setting the port to power down over night!!

Hope this helps 🙂

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

My internet does the same.  10am everyday for around 10-15 minutes and then the humdinger anywhere from 4.30pm onward for around 3-4 hours. Its terrible and means no internet or phone, and as I am workgin from home I have to finish.  I have been having issues for some time, and Open Reach replaced their modema and SKy theire, but this past week ha sbeen a nightmare.  I am waiting for a repsonse to my complaint because I have had enough

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

I changed my settings on the Sky Q mini box and master box. I changed the Eco Mode setting to always on.

In my case, that seems to have worked. I have only had one drop-out in many weeks. I hope the good connection carries on, fingers crossed.

Re: Internet connection drops every night at same time for exactly 3 hours

Not sure what the DLM reser is but there are no other devices etc that would interfere?

@HIGHLANDERS68 eco modexswitches off the wifi hotspots on Q tv boxes from 1.30 to 5.45am if you need to use the internet on devices using those then set standby to active or none.
