Intermittent connection

Since I have had sky broadband I have had the continuous issue that when I am in meetings on my laptop the internet with intermittently not being strong enough to hold connection. Considering I am getting speeds of 300mbps, there most be an issue that can be solved. The internet is not dropping off or even losing connection but multiple times a day it is having an impact on my work meetings (specifically in Microsoft teams and slack)

Re: Intermittent connection

@JosephSmith027 Wireless or wired connection from the laptop to the sky Hub? Also what hub do you have?

Re: Intermittent connection

Thanks for your response, it is a wireless connection and the hub is a Sky Max hub.

Re: Intermittent connection

@JosephSmith027 Does the laptop have an Ethernet port and a cable you could try as a test? How far are you from the sky Hub including any doors/walls/ceilings etc from the hub, and have you ever tried just being near the hub with the same error's appearing?

Trying to pin down possible wireless wi-fi issue, and if you are a sky Max subscription booster's are possible....

Re: Intermittent connection

The issue persists regardless of proximity to the hub. A wired connection is not possible based on the place in which the hub is positioned in the house compared to where I work from.

Re: Intermittent connection

@JosephSmith027 Have you considered the possibility of powerline from the hub to your position and Ethernet over that! As Forum customers can only throw out some suggestions.

Re: Intermittent connection

Apologies I didn't realise you were just a forumn user. I have considered a wired connection through the house but have not been convinced that they improve performance. Have you had a positive experience using this before?

Re: Intermittent connection

@JosephSmith027 Yes 100% anything time critical, but i also do not use and would never use that ISP supplied hub. Apps like teams etc are so time critical and wireless is just not perfect, even just getting an ethernet cable plugging it in and see if it makes any difference in the slightest while connected!

The Forum is all cust - cust help, the About at the top off the sky community screen explains it all....

Re: Intermittent connection

Beyond getting Sky equipment to improve the WiFi signal, you might consider the following:

(1)  Powerline plugs which share the internet via your home's electrical circuit.

I use them myself for a garage security camera and an outdoor 24/7 live feed camera in a back garden pond. Do not offer fantastic speed (40 down max) but is ok for their usage. Powerline plugs do not work at all if they are not on the same electrical circuit and can suffer from electrical interference.

(2) Set up your own diy home network.

I did this and it is fast and reliable. My spouse works from home and is in Team meetings etc. Depending on space, electrical sockets etc,  etc. you could retain the Sky hub, turn its WiFi off and use a mesh system in bridge or access point mode. There is of course the cost of buying the equipment but ebay has budget mesh systems from Tenda @ £47 brand new. This is by no means state of the art equipment, but I started out using them and they were fine for my needs at that time.
