Intermittent connection fault after move

Hi all,

Hoping someone can advise what might be going on here and the best way to get Sky to investigate it.

We’ve recently moved house and had the broadband changed over from BT to Sky, with Openreach involved in the changeover.

Since then we’ve been having intermittent broadband dropouts. It can be absolutely fine for hours or even days, but then we’ll suddenly get three or four dropouts relatively close together.

When it happens, the lights on the Sky Hub are:

  • Power - green
  • Internet - rapidly flashing amber/orange (sometimes then goes solid amber)
  • Wi-Fi - green
  • Voice - solid amber/orange

The internet then eventually reconnects by itself and everything goes back to green.

I’ve run Sky’s online service checker, but because the connection has usually recovered by the time I run it, it reports that everything is fine. I’ve now also got video evidence of the hub doing this while the connection is actually down.

Given that the Wi-Fi light remains green but the Internet and Voice lights go amber, I’m assuming this is more likely to be the hub losing its incoming broadband connection rather than a Wi-Fi coverage problem within the house.

Has anyone experienced similar, and is there a way of getting Sky to check the historical line logs for repeated disconnections/reconnections? I’m particularly wondering whether there could be an issue with the line/Openreach connection following the recent changeover, or potentially the hub itself.

Any advice on what I should specifically ask Sky to investigate would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

@jackcleeve @Your diagnosis is likely to be correct that it is an issue with the line. These faults are most common on partial fibre services but can rarely affect full fibre connections. You need to report the issue to Sky. Whether Sky can get Openreach to investigate will depend on the number of drops and how long they have been going on. The hub's logs should show the history.
