Intermittent IPv6 / DNS Resolution Issue – Certain Services Fail to Connect
My son has asked me to call sky and try and sort this problem, he wrote this for me but i thought it was him that was just having issues but today av tried to get on to sky Website and few others and getting ...this site cant be reached ....took to long to respond etc , put my pc on hotspot and works absolutely fine , tried ethernet again same issues, tried wifi same issue, tried rebooting same issue, tried logging in to gateway, but admin and password wont let me in , thought would try and se if anyone can help ...just got the sky max hub installed December everything was ok tonstart with but now issues are arising
Description:
I’m experiencing an intermittent connectivity issue that appears to be caused by Sky-provided DNS and/or IPv6 routing.
When the issue occurs:
Steam fails with Error Code -105 (DNS resolution failure)
Discord gets stuck on “Checking for updates”
Normal web browsing continues to work
Issue affects both Ethernet and Wi-Fi
Temporary workarounds:
Disabling IPv6 or manually setting DNS on a device temporarily resolves the issue
The problem returns after reconnection or DHCP lease renewal
This indicates that my router is repeatedly receiving unstable or incorrect IPv6 DNS and/or route advertisements from the Sky network, which are then reassigned to connected devices.
Browsers continue to work due to DNS caching and IPv4 fallback, but applications like Steam and Discord rely on consistent DNS and IPv6 routing and fail when these settings are incorrect.
Request: Please investigate:
IPv6 DNS stability on my connection
IPv6 routing / router advertisements being issued to my line
Any known IPv6 or DNS-related issues affecting my area
Whether ISP DNS or IPv6 can be corrected or disabled at the network level
This issue is not device-specific and is reproducible across resets. A network-side fix is required for a permanent resolution.
If Sky replies with basic troubleshooting, respond with:
“The issue temporarily resolves when bypassing Sky IPv6/DNS, which suggests an upstream configuration issue rather than
a local device fault.”

Re: Intermittent IPv6 / DNS Resolution Issue – Certain Services Fail to Connect
@andrenaf Sky staff do not repond to posts here
Not sure exactly what issue your son is having but Sky's network is fully IP6 compliant and no faults are known. It is possible there maybe DNS issues one work round is to power down the hub for an hour which should reset the connection at Sky's server which can help resolve DNS issue. Another work round is to change the network settings on the decice he is using so it uses a public DNS rather than Sky's own such as Google's st 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. Using a VPN is another possibility
