I am moving to a rural area with very large postcode areas.
The address that I was forced to use is incomplete.
The first line is just '5'. This might work for a regular street but my postcode is 4.5km x 6.5km! There is another part after the 5, but there is no facility to enter this.
The next line of the address that Sky have made me use is the nearest town, almost 10 miles away.
I am due to receive a delivery from DPD on Wednesday, but they will be doing well to find me with the address information that they have.
How can I correct my address?
Cheers, DD

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Dental_Drill you will need to call Sky but far more important than the delivery is giving Openreach the correct address so they activate the correct line with your new service. You need to talk to the home move team pronto.stay on the line do not accept offers of texts etc.

Thanks @Chrisee BT, utility companies and so on have the full address in their postcode database. Although I have so far seen four variations on my new address, Sky is the only one that has the address line simply as '5'!
I have managed to speak to a real person at Sky but they were unable to amend my address because it was locked as I'd only just set it up. They're (hopefully) going to phone me back tomorrow (Tuesday) and try to access it again. So, progress and no progress. 🙂

@Chrisee You are correct, sorry. I have received my order from BT and it is also for the incomplete address. I'm on the case. Fortunately the BT is just for a landline as there is no large provider broadband in my new area. P2P broadband is provided by a local company and is already in place and working. At the moment my main worry is that the Sky/BT kit will not be delivered.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Dental_Drill as you posted in the boardband forum I assumed you had ordered Sky Broadband. You need to check the postcode database https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode as the address finding systems used by companies like Openreach Sky etc all depend on that. Although there is a mechanism so you can add new addresses to that. If the property is new build check with the developer as they should have done that.

Hi @Chrisee Thank you for your advice and sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I'm new to this. I have checked the Royal Mail postcode database and it contains three versions of my address. All of these are okay. Unfortunately BT and Sky have somehow extracted an abbreviated version, missing off the equivalent of the street name. Based on what you have said I will chase it up with BT first.

The Sky equipment just arrived. 😊
The DPD driver explained that there are only four properties in my (30km square) postcode with house numbers and they are all in the hamlet that I have just moved to, so they know where to go.
Nonetheless, I have managed to speak to a human being at BT and they have added the missing part of the address and Sky are (hopefully) phoning me back this afternoon as they said yesterday that my account was locked becasue it was new.
Moving from a city to a very rural area I am discovering a bunch of things that seem like potential problems to me are not problems locally. A different style of life I guess, kind of why we're moving.

Note that for emergency service purposes it's useful to have a What Three Words reference near landline telephone handsets and stored on your mobiles.

@TimmyBGood Thanks for that tip. I have in fact been including What3Words as a line in my address for delivery companies (when I am able to type in my own address) as I was concerned that my house would be hard to find. Of course it turns out that local knowledge means that even very spartan address information will probably result in a successful delivery!
