Hello all!
I'm having the installation of full fibre broadband in my new flat, and they need to drill a small hole for the fibre. Do you know if this is inside the flat or outside the building?

For FTTP an optical cable has to be brought inside the individual dwelling unit: if this hasn't been prewired (as in a new build) then a new hole is typically required.

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
Have they already installed a small fibre drop box above your door

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
Hi @by: cookiemonsteruk
not yet, they're installing everything in 2 days as far as I know.
is there any cable that would go outside? The message I got is:
Our engineer will drill a small hole into your building to connect your Full Fibre Broadband. Because of this, we need a decision maker aged 18+ to be present.
2. If you rent the property, you'll need the landlord's permission for the work to go ahead.

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
I don't have a flat, but when there installed my full fibre, they run the fibre cable from the pole to a grey box they installed outside of my house , then run the cable from there had to drill a hole in the so they could connect the cable to o n t box they fitted in the house full fibre to the property

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
In a small block of flats of 4 then openreach may decide to treat them as single dwelling units and install each flat seperately from the road.
If it says mdu (multiple dwelling unit) they will usually install to a central distribution point and then thread the fibre to each flat from there. Openreach would have already gained wayleave (permission from the landlord and supplied them with full details about how it will be installed.
A lot depends on those notes i asked you for

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
I also have a quetion re this. I have im told the fastest Sky BB available to me, the small block of flats where I live has recently been wired for Full Fibre, the work was completed on 18th September. One engineer said give it a couple of weeks to be checked and signed off then you can apply to have it through your provider.
well its now today 27 days since the work was completed, and each flat has the little box above the flat door ready to be connected to this ONT (what ever that is)
Now I rang sky again yesterday and they say its not available!! so ok I go to the openreach site and enter post code and select address it says Not Available, then it further adds At this moment in time there are no plans foer work to start in your area!! yet the 3 engineers in the building catagorically stated it was for full fibre so any ideas what the heck is going on? there is no email address or phone number to contact openreach so I,m really in limbo.

I'd imagine that means either the external work hasn't actually been completed and signed off or the record hasn't been updated yet. Either way you'll just have to be patient.

Re: Open reach full fibre installation
An Optical Network Terminal is the powered box which goes inside each property for connection to fibre on one side and an ISP router over ethernet cable on the other: it's effectively a 'modem' because it's handling a change in signalling (light to electric)
