Don't return Sky hardware unless you are cancelling the whole subscription: it's likely to disappear and you'd be charged later.  If you choose to use a different router, keep the Sky Hub safe as you'll need it if any troubleshooting is required.

Spoke with Sky, Moved back to old tech for now, when the capability is there I may upgrade to the new one.

One thing I have wanted to check is if the Sky Hub is able to be put into strict Modem mode, or if simply connecting another routing device in necessary.

Happy to hear a solution here 🙂

Sky Hubs have never had a modem mode.

Re: How to separate 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz on a MAX HUB router

Thanks for letting me know.

I spoke to Sky, I won't lose any of my package as it was an optional upgrade at the time of an upgrade to fttp.

They cancelled as I literally have no use for the tech and it is not for for the purpose purchased because of the lack of capability (that is the split of wifi networks)

The work around is not an acceptable option here due as it is not simple enough to resolve if there is a problem.

And to be clear, the workaround makes sense to me, but for those here when I am not around it is not feasible to rectify if there is power outage or something that put the devices back to a point where they need to negotiate connection.

Didn't work for me either, however I did manage to connect smart device with a workaround.

I connected a 2nd router to the first one with a cable, then changed the settings on the 2nd router to 2.4hz and changed the name and password of the 2nd router to match that of the 1st.

This allowed me to setup the smart device on the signal from the 2nd router.

Once setup was complete, I switched off and disconnected the 2nd router and the device stayed connected and controllable with the signal from the 1st router.

I have managed to split the bands by using a Netgear AC1200 wifi extender (it was not needed in my apartment but I had one), it happily split them into band 2 & 5. Then I will not have the hassle of resetting during power cuts etc.

Well if you change your router sky will not support you if you have issues also I pay £5 a month for the latest  router  with latest WiFi and it's crap not worth the money !!
