Google mesh and Ultrafast Plus

Hi all, I'll soon join Sky Ultrafast Plus. I've just noticed some discussions (fuss) about using Google mesh with Sky. I have a 1st gen Google Wifi and quite a number of nodes - having invested a few hundred pounds in this mesh setup already, it'd be a shame to give them up or just use them in AP mode.

My questions are:

  1. Some fellows suggest double NAT as a workaround. Does it work just fine if I don't play online games at all?
  2. Will it work if I connect Google Wifi directly to the openreach box (ONT?), which looks like the below:

Thank you very much.

@New_to_Sky assuming you are in the UK rather than Ireland the Google mesh does not supports Sky's DHCPv4 Option 61 requirement to connect to the ONT directly. It may be possible to configure the unit to use DHCPv6 PD if that is supported but that does not work on all lines and there are reports of instability.

Your realistic options are therefore either a Double NAT set up behind the Sky hub or the simpler option of configuring the Google to operate in Access Point mode replacing the Sky Hub's wifi. Either should work with most apps but some business VPNs dont like Double NATs.
