Gigafast FTTP Speed

Good evening,

I had Gigafast installed today and the engineer informed me that it takes approximately 12 days for the speed to stabilise.  Can somebody confirm if this is true?

Thanks

That shouldn't be the case, no: the 'training period' is a concept inherent to broadband over copper, not an optical circuit.

However, Sky, like other ISPs, have carried a waiting period before they will accept a speed challenge over from ADSL/FTTC to FTTP.

"Good to know: Your Speed Guarantee starts 14 days after your Sky Broadband is activated – it’s so we can test your phone line for the best performance first."

Ah ok,

I should get the full 900mbps then.  It's currently at 300mbps at the moment, on wifi

Testing speed over WiFi is just testing the WiFi itself, not speed being delivered to the Hub.

Unfortunately FTTP doesn't generate useful Hub stats.

Re: Gigafast FTTP Speed

So I need to test via ethernet to get a true reading?  If so then I'll do that tomorrow 🙂

For Gigafast, yes. WiFi 5 (assuming you have a Sky Broadband Hub) isn't going to deliver anything like 900Mbs in the real world.  The new Sky Max Hub is WiFi 6, at an additional monthly cost.
