Full fibre

I received an offer to switch to Full Fibre which I excepted as I am currently on Superfast part fibre which I have subscribed to for many years. I received a package from sky containing 2 cables and was subsequently switched from superfast to superfast ie no change. Anybody else had this mixup?

@E.King

Has the fibre installation taken place outside of your property and an ONT has been installed inside for the broadband hub to be connected to ?

'Superfast' speed bands (40Mbs and 80Mbs) can be delivered over FTTP.  As @caesarome indicates, it sounds like the actual installation hasn't happened yet.

Re: Full fibre

Not yet. Currently the fibre cables have been run to the first telegraph pole in our street. I thought that as each customer elected to upgrade, openreach would come and make the final connection to the house. My issue is that Sky came to me with an offer to switch which I excepted but rather rather than switch me to full fibre, they have switched me to the same product that I'm already on. I'm sure they will resolve the issue before the copper wires are decommissioned in August.

Ah: that's not happening.

August is an arbitrary date set by Sky ahead of the end of PSTN (analogue voice calls) nationally in January 2027.

You've probably been switched onto a Sky broadband product which supports Sky Talk Internet Calls.

The replacement of copper by fibre is a different project, and will only be within of around 85% of UK addresses at the end of its commercial phase (with a much lower percentage actually connected) so broadband over copper will remain a thing for years to come.
