Hello all,
I just wanted to see how common this is and what options I may have. Open teach installed my ONT box (they put it a litter higher as we have a puppy)
Sky engineer came out to activate it today. Was less than happy, said he would put the router in my conservatory (I said we can't as the wires would be in reach of the puppy)
So I said can you not just follow the sky wires from our dish. I said I'll go on the flat roof, tack it all on, and feed you the wire, there is already a hole and that open reach left the cable. He said no, he's not doing that, it'll have to go in my kitchen (at this point I pointed out where he wants to put it there is a cupboard and the sockets there are both in use)
His response was "I will install it in the easiest place possible and nowhere else, either take it or leave it"
Bare in mind open reach said if it's there engineer they will gladly do it, but told me in advance if it's the sky engineer in our area he will refuse.
It wasn't really much work for me. I was doing all the work. All he had to do was splice it and set up the hub. I was doing all the leg work.
What are my options? How common is this response from Sky Engineer?

Important to remember we're talking about a fairly fragile optical fibre pigtail here, not a metallic coaxial cable.
I doubt they could legitimately absolve themselves of potential liability in those circumstances.

Re: FTTP installation
I suspect the Sky installer is correctly following their own guidelines: they couldn't go on a roof or in their presence have you do so if it were a satellite dish installation, and that's probably the same for broadband.

Re: FTTP installation
Would they not have been able to throw the cable over the roof (it's not a very big one) and previous sky engineers have been happy for me to hop on. I understand they can't go on the roof. But if it's my roof and I go on it, surely there is no liability for him?
if that is the case though, I'm assuming it just means I can't have FTTP unless open reach come out and redo everything into a different location (which they said at the time, we are told to install only to the easiest location for us)

Re: FTTP installation
I guess it’ll have to go back to open reach then, who will have to get a flat roof team out and redo everything and put the box in a different location.
