FTTP Broadband Installation Issues

I was supposed to have my Ultrafast Broadband installed today, but now have no idea what's going on.

Engineer turned up to install, said he couldn't dig any sort of trench but could do an 'overhead' which was no problem, managed to get the cable run to beside my front door and installed a small grey box? I had to leave for work so left him with the Mrs to finish off getting bits installed indoors. Apparently minutes after I left, he knocked and said that he needs to speak to another team and that an engineer will come back Monday to finish off the install as he wasn't sure where to run cables, despite asking me before he did anything where I wanted them put inside.

So I have a box installed a foot from my front door, and nothing whatsoever insdoors, and Sky have no clue what's going on and have said they 'Can't do anything until next Friday' which is then a week after my supposed installation. Has anyone experienced similar and has an idea how long this takes to get sorted? Really not expecting anyone to turn up Monday and feel like I have no way of even finding out what the hell is going on for another week.

Re: FTTP Broadband Installation Issues

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@RobW83 unfortunately not every fibre install goes smoothly. Sky will informed over night when the Openreach system updates so should becable to tell you more tomorrow but it maybe Monday.

It sounds like the engineer might either ran out of time or there was in issue with the connection on the pole. It is not uncommon to have two stage installations the second job usually takes an hour or so

Re: FTTP Broadband Installation Issues

@Chrisee Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I have no issue with them coming back, just the fact that he buggered off and I seem to be in limbo about what's actually happening.

Thanks again.

Re: FTTP Broadband Installation Issues

Just wanted to post an update, as I've ended up cancelling my broadband with Sky and going back to Virgin.

If I hadn't contacted Sky about this, I would have had absolutely no idea what was going on. Not even an email or a phonecall to apologise for the installation not being finished or even give an update, let alone the slightest idea of when they'll be back. Pretty shocking service IMO. They're lucky that Sky Q is so good, otherwise I'd have cancelled the whole thing I think.
