Hi all
i am looking to extend my Sky Q plus Sky WiFi out to a new garden room. Wanted to understand the options and configurstoob
i definately need an Ethernet cable between the two buildings. If I plug a new Sky Q mini box in the garden room from an Ethernet hub in the house, will my wifi (ssid) extend naturally out there.
Ideally I'd like the WiFi to be seamless between them to accommodate music streaming etc - will Ethernet as a back haul between the Home network and outbuilding work or do I need something more sophisticated?

Running an Ethernet cable is definitely the best option.
What you then do with it is up to you.
My preferred solution is to use a second router / access point.
Many routers can be placed in access point mode which is ideal for this application.
I'd recommend the TP-Link AX1800 (I have one) for about £60
The benefit of this is it gives you WiFi 6 plus four Ethernet ports; the Ethernet port normally used for WAN access becomes the uplink connection.
For WiFi roaming, simply use the same SSID and password as used on your main router.

@Toadster2019 you can do exactly as you posted just connect a Q mini in your garden room to an ethernet cable back to the hub and the its wifi hot spot will broadcast the same Sky SSID and devices should roam seamlessly.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode

Being in my late 70's that is a really helpful post for me as (I only want Sky Sports in the garden at random points in the summer) I would like to take an existing Sky Q mini to the outside area and connect it by ethernet (recently installed) Do you think it would be trouble free (or would it be a full set up every time I moved it) or do I need to consider getting a 4th box ? Wifi is weak/non-existent at present.

Providing that ethernet cable has a direct connection back to your hub or Sky Q box it should just work without setup when you move the mini box
