Extend wifi using old router
I am trying to extend my wifi using tp powerline adapters and an old router.
I have set the second router up and it seems to be working but i now have an issue with my sky q box losing internet connection?
Is there a solution to this? I don't really want to order wifi max but believe third party extenders may not work either.

Re: Extend wifi using old router
@Kb36 You need to use dedicated access points or poweline adapters not additional routers which is causing your issue.

Re: Extend wifi using old router
If that's a Q or Sky Broadband Hub then it's almost certainly going to do weird things to Q television because of the internal 'Q Mesh' functionality (which cannot be disabled)
As @GD1 indicates, a dedicated wireless access point is generally the appropriate hardware.

Re: Extend wifi using old router
What TimmyBGood said notwithstanding, if you are going to run a compatible old router as a wireless access point, the trick is to turn everything off except the wireless function and give it a static address in your own network.
In particular, you cannot have two DHCPs running in a network, (unless you set up a split scope), as it causes the same address to be issued to more than one client and chaos ensues.

Re: Extend wifi using old router
Would a tp link extender work? I've read that these are often not compatible with sky hub and q box

Re: Extend wifi using old router
The very specific incompatibility is that WiFi from non-Sky wireless hardware cannot provide a signal to a Q Mini box.

No mini boxes in use, primarily trying to extend for ring security camera connectivity
