We're only other customers here but your friends may be on new customer deals with various suppliers. If you're out of minimum term then you need to contact Sky to try and renegotiate, be prepared to look for other deals if no success and use the OTS (one touch switch) service as you won't need to contact Sky once more (again, if out of minimum term).
