Ethernet switch required specifications

Hi,due to have sky 150 installed shortly & I'm trying to have everything I will need on place before installation, In my main room I currently have everything hardwired & use an 8 port tp link switch , Everything works fine under my current setup But being an oldie I'm not well up on new tech .the switch I have is 300mbs ,will I need to upgrade it so as not to slow down connection,also what grade of cables will I need ,your advice on this matter would be so appreciated.

Never heard of a 300Mb switch. If it's really ancient or cheap, it might be 100Mb but much more likely 1GB.

 

Clearly if it's 100Mb you won't get the full speed but they're really cheap to upgrade. Also check that your cables are at least Cat5e as plain Cat5 is also limited to 100Mb.
