Hello,
We've been having issues with our broadband for the last three days, primarily drop outs and lower download speeds. Calling Sky support yesterday, they offered to arrange an Openreach engineer to visit our house to fix the issue.
This is a problem for our household at short notice. I'm a carer for a disabled family member with severe anxiety relating to strangers entering the home. On the other hand, we naturally want the issue to be fixed.
How likely is it that the fault is at the local cabinet/exchange rather than inside our home? Would it be possible for the open reach engineer to only check the local cabinet instead of coming into our home? Anyone's experience or advice would be most appreciated.

If that's FTTC broadband then injecting a tone from the socket within your property to identify the circuit is very common.
