Download speed

Hi, Ever since Virgin knocked on my door to discuss my broadband, I have done various checks with different sites for my download speed over various weeks, and at various times of the day.

My average is 8Mbs?

I can assure SKY, that I pay an awful lot of money for my broadband, and this speed is awful. I have completed all the checks you recommend, and nothing more I can do to improve the speed. I pay for superfast 35, which I currently pay £41 per month. My renewal is coming up and you state that I am on your fastest available broadband speed, but I can add WiFi Max to achieve an additional income from me for £4 per month!

According to Virgin I can receive around 132Mbs. For around £23 per month

Please advise, why am I paying more for less download speed.

@markabam you are not talking to Sky by posting in the forum. When measuring internet speeds be careful as you may not be measuring thecspeed to your hub rather thecspeed from the hub to your device which is limited by the layour and type of construction of your home.

If you are on a basic 35Mb/s service it sounds like you are using a partial fibre supply where speed to the hub is limited by the length of your phone line. As and when Openreach replace the copper line with fibre that limitation goes away. Virgin Media use their own cables which can offer higher speeds.

All ISPs offer discounts to attract new customers so look carefully at the terms of Virgin's offer over the 2year contract as it may not be quite so attractive however it seems an easy decision to make given you get higher speeds to the hub for less money. However it doesnt necessarily mean your wifi conected cevices will be faster.
