Different position to house from pole

Hi

At the moment the wire from the pole is terminated down the side of our house.

When we switch to fibre can the new cable

,be run to the front of the house, obviously a different position.

Also I have cables running from the satellite dish under the floor through an air grate directly under the living room floor to the back of tv  where router is. Would sky engineer follow this route, forgot to mention I have got a draw wire under the floor making this fairly simple.

It's likely to be Openreach, and typically no, they won't do that.  It's the national optical network all the way to the ONT, and so they have pretty strict working regulations.

You could, however, request that they put the ONT on the far end of your own draw wire and then use that yourself to bring your own ethernet cable through to your preferred router location.

Hi @Wraggy58

Openreach will only usually bring the fibre cable in via the easiest route. If the pole position is at the side of your house its likely the new cable will need to run to the side of your house also. Then there is only a minimal amount of cabling they are usually willing to run before entering your house.

Re: Different position to house from pole

The front of our house is nearer the pole.

So if open reach place their box on the wall next to my air grate can the sky engineer come out of the openreach connection box and run the cable through the air grate under the floor to the outlet that they fit inside.

@Wraggy58

Any Sky installer carrying out second stage FTTP installation has to stick to Openreach working practices, and I suspect that rules out an underfloor optical pigtail route.

Re: Different position to house from pole

So from hopefully the outside termination box is fitted above ground level next to my air grate. From there it is 5 metres maximum to behind the TV.  I want the cable between the outside box and the ONT box, to run under my living room floor, which is actually under the house, not between 2 wooden floors. So basically run across foundations.

Is there any reason why this can't be done this way.

As I've said twice, it's not your connection: it's the end of a circuit on the national optical network up until the ONT. Openreach has standard working procedures and running a fibre pigtail (which isn't particularly robust) on that kind of route almost certainly falls outside these.

However this is all speculation: you won't actually know until the day.

Thanks for your responses.

I think it might be down to the engineers on the day.
