Conversion to fibre optics
Got an offer to convert my broadband connection to fibre optics.
The Engineer called in today. The only info I was given was that he would need to drill a hole in an external wall to take the tube.
Engineer was shown three different locations but was not able to fit the update due to the length of line between the box and the optics cable being too long (it is only about four feet) He tells me the distance between the cable coming in to the box and the distance from the box to the electrical supply wasn't to be more than two feet (guesstimate). He wasn't allowed to drill through a wall where there were tiles, and nor was he allowed to connect to an outide mains supply.
Useless really, why weren't we given that sort of information beforehand.
So, I cannot have a fibre optic fitted as if the cable coming into the house is longer than a short distance it might break, and I needed to wire in a mains connection nearer to where the cable will enter the house (at my expense)
Luckily having fibre optics won't make any difference to me, but the lack of preperation required as never explained.
Given a Sky number to contact and got the usual links to various answere that never answered anything.
Anybody else having the same sort of problem.
Apparently I am not allowed to show the Sky number I was given to call to discuss this problem. Tried and unable to speak to a human being.

Re: Conversion to fibre optics
Unfortunately the need for a power socket within reach of the new Optical Network Terminal is unavoidable: that's an intrinsic part of how FTTP functions. Where the ONT can go is dictated by the length of the optical pigtail available to the installer and the route it takes from the external Customer Service Point (CSP)
The router (Hub) location can be made more flexible by purchasing a longer ethernet cable than the one which the ISP supplies.

Re: Conversion to fibre optics
Maybe so, but the requirements for fitting were never made clear. I don't really intend running a new cable and power point three feet just to be near the new box.
The old one works prefectly well, i only ordered it because I thought I was going to update a system that works perfectly well now, but the Engineer tells me it will be some years before the 'old' system is finally phased out so no hurry for me then.
Just poor communication from Sky, and of course it is difficult benig able to talk to a human being.

@William+Veloz What the Engineer said timescale wise may be true but OR can pull the plug when needed that is just a complete unknown, and as long as you stay with sky you will have nothing to worry about with the Fibre change presently, if you were to move there will be zero choice for you and Fibre will be done or no connection will be supplied! If you wish take a look at the OR on the day video linked below!

Re: Conversion to fibre optics
I upgraded to fibre, what a waste of time! The box where they drilled through just looks a mess in my living room also there is no speed at all, i recieved an email saying you haven't been receiving the speed you were promised you could get a refund, that was months ago still waiting for reply, was better off with the basic package as the fibre signal goes no further than the room
its in

Re: Conversion to fibre optics
@Romanjai Possible that there is a Fibre issue it can happen nothing in life is 100%, have you called sky to get any form off help regarding the whole issue you have... My FF500 connection has just not missed a beat since installed, the sky hub they sent was on 6 weeks just to make sure the sky connnection was good which it was, but all of that is now disconnected sky Equipment wise as a ISP supplied Hub just does not cut the Mustard, and that is My decission not to use any off it!

That would be the WiFi (presumably from a different Hub model) rather than the 'fibre signal'.

It will be a rolling programme to remove remaining copper circuits in each individual exchange area: no timetable has been announced, but Openreach is highly motivated to reduce the running cost of the legacy network.
