Connection Okay, but extremely poor LAN speeds / throughput

Good Morning,

I am hoping to find some advise, I will try to summarise the issue in as much detail as possible.

I have moved to Sky 3 weeks ago and have had no issues. Im quite far away from the exchange only capable of getting between 25-30mb. The transfer to sky actually resulted in a slight speed increase.

For the last week or so, late at night my connection has been dropping to around 3mb. Usually a reboot of the router resolves this. Annoying, but manageable. However this occasian, it has not and I have suffered unusable speeds for 9+ hours. A final reboot appears to have resolved this now, but its starting to become an issue. Some more details:

Speed tests completed via ethernet, with all devices connected as usual, as well as removing all other devices.

I have a fairly new Master socket 5c installed 1.5 years ago. And the link speed is always rock steady at around 29mb - Router statistics https://gyazo.com/9cfc474418608853b58951cd6046d0bc

I have changed Lan port, tried "fast" and "gigabit" speeds, this does not resolve.

LAN and Wireless speeds are both affected during these times of slow speeds

Upload and download are both affected, however download drops by 85% upload only by 50%

I have replaced cables, using CAT6 and CAT5e cabling - No difference.

It always starting around 11pm/12am lead me to believe it was some kind of line check / background process, especially as a reboot resolved. But this time it lasted 9 + hours, several reboots later it has now resolved, its almost like i have get lucky with a reboot and new connection.

Ping usually is rock steady around 16/17ms, but doubles during these slow speeds.

Speed Test Results from last 12 hours - https://gyazo.com/6ad0385fb4c6cf44fb3742b5c1a0f12d

I have a few static IP reservations, My network consists off 3 Google Mini, Sky Q, Sky Mini, PS5, PC, 2 Laptops, iPad, 3 Smart phones, 2 TP Link TAPO cameras. Usually 9 devices shown connected on the router, some minor background usage of the network, but issue remains with WiFI on or off at the router and with all devices or just my PC (Connected via cable) used to test. Network statistics show minimal usage from my PC when connected, so nothing downloading or hogging bandwidth.

Any insight into this, ideas, similar stories, or general advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Re: Connection Okay, but extremely poor LAN speeds / throughput

I have no resolved the issue.

Turns out it was a background microsoft process using up 90% of my bandwidth... Classic microsoft.

it was - svchost.exe (networkservice-p)

Resolved by manually limiting download rates in windows, and disabling BITS and Wuauserv services.

Absolute nightmare. Posting for visibility for others.

Re: Connection Okay, but extremely poor LAN speeds / throughput

3 hours of good internet and its crashed bvack down to 3mb... I have noticed the router reporting usage on the network, but this is with ALL devices disconnected apart from my PC, and its not using anything...

I cant wrap my head around it, its like my bandwidth is being used up and data is being sent to me, but nothing is using it.

Re: Connection Okay, but extremely poor LAN speeds / throughput

I know I'm late to the party here but I had a very similar problem today.  After much investigation I found that my issue was actually caused by a Windows process called 'Delivery Optimisation'.  This is a relatively new feature that can assist downloading Windwos updates across multiple devices on your home network.  I found that by disabling it my LAN speed went from about 7Mbps to 39 Mbps.
