Connecting Vigor 130 & Archer AX11000 to Sky

I have been getting fed up with the Sky router for many reasons so finally decided to buy a Draytek Vigor 130 modem and TP-Link Archer AX11000 router.

Thats the good part.

I have connected the Vigor, and set it to bridged mode (MPOA (RFC1483/2684, 1483 Bridged IP (IPoE) Encapsulation, VCI to 101

This has not worked.

As for the router, thst didnt ask what ISP, it just asked to auto detect different modes, and still wont connect.

Does anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong?

TP-Link routers are well known for not supporting DHCP Option 61 unless it's a DSL router, eg: it has a modem included in the router itself. And the implementation of DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation (PD) another method used by Sky to authenticate isn't well implemented in the TP-Link routers and usually doesn't work on the 80% of broadband exchanges that this method can be used,

So you are saying the Archer AX11000 isn't Sky compatible?

Not offically no. Many people come onto the forum with issues connecting TP-Link routers to Sky lines

We have found on the forum that at least one member has interfaced with TP-Link to get DHCPv6 PD working with Sky but not for the model of the TP-Link wireless router you have currently.

But it is recommended that it would be faster to return the TP-Link router and purchase a router more suitable with DHCP Option 61 and DHCPv6 PD that works, eg: known ones that work that are popular on the Sky forum are Asus wireless routers that are 802.11ax.

I think you'll find that Asus AX11000 wireless router will work with stock firmware without issues. 😀

Re: Connecting Vigor 130 & Archer AX11000 to Sky

Ok so I have the ASU's arriving tomorrow.

I still plan to use the Vigor.

so, starting from square one again (I hate being old), do I still need to put the Vigor into bridge mode, then let the ASU's do the rest?

Re: Connecting Vigor 130 & Archer AX11000 to Sky

@NaNook1971

Yep, the Vigor is in bridge mode. You then need to fill in the DHCP Option 61 field with 'anything@skydsl|anything' and can also add DHCPv6 PD. Once this is done just turn off the Vigor and router for about 30 minutes to clear any tokens held at the Sky backend, power on the two devices and you should be in business with the new router.

The draytek needs to be in bridge mode and the asus as router for the asus to obtain the public ip address, nat and other advanced router functions

Re: Connecting Vigor 130 & Archer AX11000 to Sky

Ok, so here we go for try 2!

So I now have the AX11000.  I still cannot connect.

I reset the Vigor to default, then went to Internet Access/MPOA Static/Dynamic IP.  I enabled MPoA (RFC1483/2684).

I left everything else default.

Connected the AX11000, went through the basic setup and still no connection.  I then flashed with Merlin.  It goes through the internet connection detection phase.  It then asks for connection type, so I select Automatic IP and click the DHCP Option Box.

It then asks me for DHCP Option settings, for class identifier option 60 I enter abcdefgh@skydsl and the same for option 61.  I do not tick IAID/DUID. It continues with some non connection related questions, and once complete I get the message "Your ISPs DHCP does not function properly".

So I am now at a complete loss and hope you guys can shed some light on this?

You have missed the |anything after the anything at anything@skydsl it must read

Anything@skydsl|anything

And dhcp query frequency should be normal
