Connect sky max extender from 3rd party

I bought a sky max extender from a 3rd party, but it will not connect to my router. It is not recognised on My Devices, and I cannot find how to connect it using the serial number. Is there a way to do this?

@Hagwortz I dont believe there is as the hub needs enabling to support pods by Sky which they do as part of buying the Sky WiFi mMax bundle. Whoever gave it you will be charged by Sky when the leave Sky as the pods like tge hubs are loaned not given away.

Re: Connect sky max extender from 3rd party

@Chrisee  Thanks for your response, that makes sense. A Sky adviser told me that if I didn't want to rent a pod for an additional £8.00 per month, I could buy a 3rd party extender to get full Wi-fi coverage. There was no mention of enabling the Sky Max router to achieve this.

Thank you for shedding light on this.

@Hagwortz The adviser was right as a third party extender can work.  The Max pod you got should legally   never be offered for sale. The pods are matched to the hub so can be used to extend the same SSID. A thirdparty booster cannot work in the same way so can cause interference but in most cases should work.

@Chrisee Thanks again for your reply. That all makes sense once it is explained.

I found a work-around by making my Sky Q mini boxes into wi-fi hotspots, and that works in the dead area I was trying to cover.
