Connect TP-Link AX-1800 to Sky Fibre Broadband

Hi all,

Everything gas been fine for years but my sons have pointed out that the WiFi around my house is basically rubbish. I have a couple of extenders but they aren't great. Based on this they have given me a surplus although still boxed TO-Link AX-1800 router which they say should be better.

In short, I'm pretty useless at this sort of stuff but I have replaced my Sky Q router with the TP according to the instructions.  Unfortunately it is failing to connect to the Internet although the website said it should. The Tether app is asking for my ISP connection info incl password. Is this my Sky account info? Is there something else I should be doing? As I have said, I'm not getting anywhere and am stuck so any help would be really appreciated!

I have Sky fibre (around 30mbps) and Sky Q and 2 mini boxes.

Thanks for any help

Ian

@Ianellis

The TP-Link AX1800 is a wireless ethernet router and would need a modem to connect directly to the telephone socket and directly to the VDSL2 broadband line which is the signalling method used to connect via the twisted pair to the cabinet.

There is another way of connecting the wireless ethernet router that doesn't need an additional VDSL2 modem, and that is to connect it to the Sky Hub.

Most of the time these wireless routers can be placed in a wireless access point mode and this doesn't need any password with the exception of the one required for logging into the TP-Link AX1800 which would be provided with that piece of equipment to set it up in this wireless access point mode.

An ethernet cable would need to be wired between the Sky Hub LAN port and the TP-Link AX1800 and then placed in access point mode via the TP-Link AX1800 interface.

Re: Connect TP-Link AX-1800 to Sky Fibre Broadband

Thanks mae-3

I'll try wiring the TP router into the existing Sky one tomorrow.

I have looked behind the cupboards and found a Sky supplied modem which is wired to the Sky router by ethernet. Would this make a difference and if so do you know what settings I should try?

Cheers

Ian

Re: Connect TP-Link AX-1800 to Sky Fibre Broadband

Okay I tried all the steps but nothing has worked. We actually have a BT modem but Sky provide the Broadband through their fibre network.

If I connect the TP router either directly to the modem or via the Sky hub the TP fails to connect to the Internet.

Having read more articles and posts on the forum last night I think the TP may not be compatible, would you suggest a Asus router instead?

Regards

Ian

Usually, Asus routers are the most compatible with Sky authentication DHCP Option 61 and DHCPv6 PD.
