Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

Hello.

I'm trying to configure my new Sky Max hub to replicate the settings on my older Sky hub (or, correctly, router.)

First issue is that the backup from my old hub can't be uploaded to the device. I've tediously sat and entered all my IP address reservations.

Now I'm lookign to set up UPnP, firewall and port forwarding rules.

Apparently, I can't do this from the web page, and can only do it from the app.

I wish to configure the device before I swap it with my working router and confirm everything is correctly loaded on it - without causing any interruption to the services I have running on my internet.

Can any one tell me a way I can get full access to all the settings of the router via it's IP address, including port forwarding without using the Sky app?

Alternativly, I will send this router back to Sky.

Re: Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

The SR213 only seems to become locked down after you've connected the internet & it's associated with your account. So you should simply be able to make the changes in the web interface.

If you have connected it previously they will be disabled & you will have to factory reset it. Obviously backup the changes you've already made but there's a chance that restoring will disable the settings again.

No surprise that the backup from a different model won't load.

Hi, I tried the Factory Reset without the SR213 connected to the ONT, but the Port Forwarding still only says to visit sky.com.  Is the SR213 fully locked down now for basic port forwarding?

@reddwarfcrew it is heavily locked down the only user settings are configured using the My Sky app including port forwarding the web interface is almost totally only for information.

Re: Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

It's a real shame.  I have the SR203 but it suffers from the bug where the network is limited to 250mb when you have a sky q or mini connected via ethernet. I have my q's connected via ethernet as they suffer picture stuttering if they are on wifi.  I think that issue is due to the main Q being too far away from the sky router.

Thought I'd borrow a SR213 to see if that fixed the bug but of course no use unless you pay for wifi max then.

I have 3 eero's so dont need a fancy router, just one that doesn't limit the network when using ethernet.  Shame the eeros cant do option 61 or PD authenication.

@FLC  I'm not surprised.  I think it is standard practice today.  I happen to know that the BT Smart Hub 2 also won't let you move backups between them, even if they are both the same model.  Silly really.

Sorry, BenP2, I know that doesn't help you.

I don't think its silly, restoring from a backup on a router can cause enough troubles as it is. And now with ISPs diversifying their chip manufacturers you may get 2-3 variants of the same model of router which may not create compatible backups with each other.

Re: Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

A fair point.  There are pluses and minuses.  I have two and they are identical so it would be useful to do the one backup.  You make a good point, however.

(I've just realised that I misread FLC's post.  I though he said he was surprised).

Agreed if they are the same model & variant I don't see why the backups would't be allowed across them. Perhaps its a security aspect from Sky to stop a rogue backup file from being passed around.

Re: Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

These are BT Smart Hub 2's.  That was my orginal point, it's not just Sky doing it.  presumably it's tied to the MAC or serial no.

(Oh, I've earned another badge.  Jeez, what is it with this badge nonsense.  If I wanted badges I'd join the Scouts).

Re: Configure Sky Max up without Sky app

So, is there a way to configure this thing if you don't have mobile phone to download the app to?

@Deb3000

The My Sky app requires a phone, tablet or, at a pinch, a Windows, Apple or Linux PC running an Android emulator.
