Coming to the end of my Sky Broadband contract

Not sure anyone will be able to help or advise as this isn't directly a Sky issue, but here goes:

My 18 month Sky Superfast Broadband contract is coming to an end soon but have discovered that Sky's subsidiary 'Now' offer a 12 month (as opposed to 18 months) contract at a much better than the out-of-contract price with Sky.

However, when I start the process to switch to Now I get a message saying something like 'sorry we are unable to provide broadband at your address'. This seems strange being that I thought Sky/Now were closely connected and I've been with Sky BB for nearly 3 years.

I'm trying to avoid a longer term contract because the rural area where I live is due to be upgraded to FTTP by one of the alt-nets in the first half of 2024 and want to be able to switch without being trapped in a long contract with another provider.

Does anyone have any ideas why Now can't/won't provide the service at my address that Sky can. Oddly, if I go to broadband.co.uk Now is listed amongst available providers, but becomes unavailable when I try to proceed with their offer. Strange. Thanks for any clues!

Yeah now tv doesn't offer sogea/voip only the older fttc service

so if only digital voice is available it suggests open reach has withdrawn the old copper services

If you were trying to port your number from sky to now that will prevent an order as it's not possible

ot could also be your area has been copper withdrawn by open reach in advance of the fttp upgrade which means no one can provide a new copper based service to replace the existing active service

Re: Coming to the end of my Sky Broadband contract

Thanks for replying.

I think I may have found the answer on another forum. With Sky Broadband I have my landline as digital voice through the router. Apparently the Now routers do not have this function on their routers so that flags it as being unavailable at my address. I don't think there is an option with Now to order BB with no phone line, even though I'd be happy to not have a landline.

Some of the providers offered by broadband.co.uk are able to provide a service at my address if I wanted, so I guess their routers have digital voice ability.
