Cable fitted to front of house

We have noticed a cable has been run up the front of our house, we haven't recently ordered fibre. Contacted Openreach who say it wasn't them. tried to contact Sky to see if it's them. A lot of our neighbours have also had these cable fitted. Appears to run from a small brown tile near ground, up the front of the house and under a tile on our roof, anyone know what this could be?

@Falco70 Do you have other Altnet's running Fibre about, or perhaps you had Virgin cable to the property?

Re: Cable fitted to front of house

Thanks for reply. Lived here 25 years, never had cable to the property as it was built after the fibre was added to the street. This cable has been put on our house in last few days.

@Falco70 it doesn't sound like it could possibly be Sky as they do not own any networks they like many other isps use Openreach's network and I assume you do not have a Sky satellite system. .

Any utility company should get the home owners permission before attaching cables to a property so if you rent have a word with your landlord otherwise have you asked your neighbours who installed the cables. If really stuck your local council should know who has been working in your road recently.

@Falco70 well its a mystery as normally when a communications company be it Openreach or any other install fibre cables to a road they either install distribution points on a telegraph pole or run underground cables to points outside each home. Only when a customer orders a service do they run the cables to the property as they need the owners permission.

@Falco70

Even a really cheeky altnet doesn't typically attach infrastructure to private property without permission: poles looming up from the pavement are somewhat different.

@Falco70 May be a good idea if you can, take a photo and attach it to your posting, does sound if it is a Fibre the infra engineers are going way above the needy, and its look your fibre is all ready at your home, we did it all for you so come join us we welcome you with open arms.... Otherwise it is a pure liberty!

@JimM1 not to mention probably illegal. Housing Associations can agree to this sort of thing on their properies but they should warn the residents

Re: Cable fitted to front of house

@Chrisee VM and possibly OR do have some leway regarding what they can/cannot do with existing infrastructure but agree bad practice to just do as the OP has said, working with a neighbour and OR civils as we speak are doing Fibre right up to the front window, they are correct would be a nightmare otherwise, order was put in to sky Nov2024, and i went took the look last night existing to new, pointed out all off the pitfalls that are going to go rapid downhill, so advised you better look at you order, the e-mails and on your My Messages about it all, she said yes but all this compo i am going to get, forget that you have had BB/Sat all this time over the copper, delayed by OR who jumped the gun as a major oops on there side, not one resident will allow them to dig back the 100' they need to hit a pole and string the Fibre, but 60 year old homes, well established what can one say. Just glad all my side was ok and they managed to get those 50 homes up with no issues... OR current planning and VM filling the duct with there Fibre, copper pullout would be the only way and that is just not going to happen, to many golden oldies in our twilight years and stubborn to boot at present.

Re: Cable fitted to front of house

Tempted to just pull it off but maybe need them in the future. It's the bit at the top that goes over the front of the house, it's then wedged under a roof tile. Surely they should have asked our permission, I don't even know exactly when it was done lol
