Broadband upgrade in speed didnt go live

I upgraded my Broadband to GigaFast from (I think) the 300Mb service. The go live date was yesterday before midnight. It hasnt happened. Is this common? I thought the process was automatic? Now I have a go live date of today. I was going to cancel the Sky Broadband as I am out of contract in 5 days and go with Virgin Media, but they kept letting me down on an install date..... Feels a bit like Daja-Vu here now.
