Broadband too expensive

Looks like I will be switching from Sky Broadband, now up to £43.50pm. Best VIP price offered after call was £40pm for full fibre 300. I find it strange Sky offers online deals for £10 less and double the speed to grab new business but are content to lose their long standing loyal customers, it's a lot of money each month for a pensioner. It's probably the same for all other companies offering cheaper prices.

is everyone paying similar prices?

@godders58

if you no longer consider Sky value for money then you can place an order with another conpany who will take over your services. Note this does not apply to Sky TV as this has to be cancelled giving 31 days notice.

@godders58 Sky like other companies offer lower prices to attract new customers which are only valid for a period after which people go onto the normal prices. If you are out of contact you can easily switch simply by signing up with a new company who will handle the switch including cancelling with Sky. However dont be too surprised thst in a couple of years you will be back in the same position. After 18 months away from Sky you can access their "new customer" prices.

@godders58

Unfortunately this is just the way it works with broadband suppliers, no deals for very loyal customers.

I was a happy TalkTalk customer for many years getting good service and deals on new contracts, but last year they put the price up and no negotiation could get them to budge other than 3 months discounted out of a contract of 24 months. Sky gave me a terrific deal on FF150 and so I switched to them. However, once my deal is up in 18 months I am pretty certain I will have to move again. For me this is pretty painless as I have my own Mesh wifi system so ce-la-vie.....

Good luck with moving

Altnet ISPs can choose to burn through start-up capital to lay infrastructure and attract customers if they wish: it's not necessarily a sustainable strategy.

Re: Broadband too expensive

I've just switched to Community Fibre 1gb, 12 months free then £27pm in April '27.  Within a minute of switching Sky offered £32pm for 500mps. May be worth a look!

Re: Broadband too expensive

I want to upgrade to full  fibre 500 he said I can't  give me a discount and I won't lose my £3 discount what I had already had for  the 300. so he asked me if I've got ultra HD tv said no  so  i am paying for something I don't have . And he decided  he will  take it  of my bill (but I got to pay the 30 days cancellation  ) leaving the extra money to go towards the 500.  So my bills stay the same price i had with the 300 minus the Ultra HD

so i am completely happy with that .

Might also have lower operating costs. My startup (box) was acquired by them and this price was locked in for 2 years (with the usualy caveats) so we'll see. It's an awesome service at double the price.
