Broadband outage in my area?
yet no one else seems to have the issue and the service checker just says it can take 48hrs to resolve this type of issue.
I work from home and need a better update and communication of what the issue is and the likely resolution time?

Unfortunately using domestic broadband to work from home just doesn't bring that kind of service level: business broadband with a designated proactive point of contact would cost around ten times as much per month.
For any updates you'll need to call Sky: what they can tell you depends on what the network maintainer (Openreach/ OpenEIR) has reported.

Note that '48 hours' is the generic Openreach target time to fix.
