Broadband installation

I am switching from Virgin to Sky after 18months.

I previous was on BT broadband and think I have the right equipment in my house.  I dont have the sky router yet so can do the full check that Openreach ask for.  An appointment is booked for 1st October in the afternoon and on the Openreach app it will not allow me to change the time or date.

I have just phoned sky and they said I could have an appointment on Friday 2nd, but it would be paid.  I asked for the price and they were unable to give me one, this seems odd.

As I said all I think needs to happen is activation from somewhere else, the call handler seemed to disagree.

45 mins wasted on the phone.

If placing the order has triggered migration from a copper line to an optical circuit then installer attendance is required.

It's also necessary if you've already got an Openreach ONT but there's CityFibre in the area.

Re: Broadband installation

I already have the ONS box in my house.  Not sure about city fibre.

Unfortunately if there is a CityFibre presence in the area, Sky will insist on a CityFibre circuit being installed even if there's already an Openreach ONT at the address.

If they've quoted you broadband speeds which are approaching being symmetrical then it's CityFibre provisioning.

Re: Broadband installation

Even though the questioning came from Openreach and the appointment is Openreach?

Re: Broadband installation

Ignore the City Fibre thing, Timmy was just bringing it up for examples as to why Openreach might require an appointment. And it is them that insists, Sky don't get much say if Openreach says you need an appointment, then they'll send an engineer out, even if it's just to manually look at your ONT, nod and go away. If you have a working ONT and it's powered on then Openreach's checks don't require you to have the Sky router yet, the test is run to the ONT. However it's past that now, they've decided you need an engineer, if they won't let you change it, you'll either need to make sure you or someone else over 18 is there in the house at the time, or if they text you later and ask you to confirm which they should do a few days before, try changing it then.

They could be exchanging the ONT for a different model, verifying their records, or it might just be a mistake.
