Broadband help
Hi so over the weekend I've recently upgraded my WiFi to ultra fast plus only the WiFi tho ( I'm also a tv customer too )
and engineer isn't due to come to my house untill the 26th January in the mean time I'm waiting for a delivery of some kind I've already had I believe what is called a conversion kit delivered ( a black cable that's it thru the post )
will I be getting a new router also delivered don't really no what's happening will the engineer bring the rest of the stuff ??
or will it still be my old router ?
what does the engineer actually do on the day of its just a WiFi upgrade the lady on the phone wasn't very helpful !
but what I just really want to know am I due to have anything else delivered and when will my new WiFi be activated ?

Re: Broadband help
What hub do you have at the minute?
If you have the sr203 then the conversion kit (its just an ethernet cable) then that all you need
Sky Stream , Sky Superfast, SR203 router, Tp link td w9970 + Asus RT AX58U (backup), Xbox Series X, google home mini, LG 55 inch uhd tv, with Dolbyvision, samsung a5 2017 and samsung s21
If I get it right mark as answered
If I get it wrong humour me
If I say something you like give a thumbs up

Re: Broadband help
I could tell you I know it's a black hub I've had it for around 6 years ,
the lady on the phone said that the engineer will be doing stuff on the outside of house and the external wires if I Hurd correctly
little bit bizzare that it's just a wire that improves the WiFi

Re: Broadband help
Furthermore on the day of installation openreach will install a fibre optic modem called an ont

Re: Broadband help
The conversion kit is a gigabit ethernet cable that will connect the ont to the sky hub
Also as the existing hub is 6 years old you will also get a new hub in due course to be delivered up until the day before your activation

Broadband is not WiFi.
Copper struggles to carry high-frequency data signalling over any appreciable distance. FTTC over copper tops out at 80Mbs which is then reduced by distance from the Openreach cabinet, while G.fast is either 300 or 150Mbs at most.
Fibre-optic cable can carry light pulses over very long distances at data-rates of many gigabits per second. Your current copper 'phone line' will be redundant after replacement by a purely optical service over fibre: that's why the installer 'will be will be doing stuff on the outside of house and the external wires', because you're getting a whole new circuit over a non-metallic bearer.

Re: Broadband help
Oh right yeah I mean WiFi I only asked to change my wifi I don't actually have a house phone but I was told they upgrade everything for it all to work properly
But with WiFi I've only received a black cable I'm guessing the WiFi box router thing will arrive before activation which I'm assuming is the 26th when the engineer comes to my house

That means Sky thinks you already have a Sky Broadband Hub, which was released in 2019. If you have a Q Hub (from 2016 onwards) then you need to query this as that's not the intended hardware for FTTP.

Re: Broadband help
There's no such thing as 'WiFi only' in this context: you've ordered a faster broadband connection to the property (Ultrafast+ is 500Mbs delivered over FTTP) so that your Hub can then offer faster WiFi to client devices there.

Re: Broadband help
I'm not very good with technical terms only thing I spoke about was improving my WiFi as it was very slow and they sorted out a packaged for me
The lady said that a router will come with the engineer I just didn't know that I would just have a cable delivered thru the post
but I'm assuming I might need to ring as if they was sending me a new router I should have got it by now

They've 'improved' your WiFi by selling you a much faster broadband connection: this should have the same effect, albeit at a higher monthly cost.
The lady said that a router will come with the engineer
No: she was wrong about that. Where a different model of Hub is required it comes by post: if you already have the model on the right in the image above then just the cable will do.
