Broadband Speed Crawled to a half with ASUS router + Openreach Modem

Hey looking for some help, since we moved into our property we've been using an Asus RT-AC66U and a BT Open Reach ECI Telecom B-FOCuS V-2FUb/r mode, with seemingly no issues, we only get about 18Mbps but we live in the middle of nowhere so we've come to accept it.

However the last few days our speed crawled to a halt, i'd made no changes to the settings, there'd been no firmware updates on the router. The only setting i'd changed (which i'd started to do after the speed had started to deteriorate) was adaptive QOS and trying to use that to get around what I thought was certain network devices hogging all the bandwidth.

By last night, I was getting speedtest results with only 1 device active on the network 1.21 at 2316, 0.02 at 2321 and 0.04 at 0719 this morning. When I came in front work this morning my family told me the internet had been unusable all day and when I speed tested it, it was coming through at 1.23Mbps.

So to run further diagnostics and allow sky to get involved I went and fished my sky provided router out of the loft and plugged it in, let it boot up, ran a speed test, and bam 18.65, 17.46, 18.20Mbps.

Anyone got any ideas of what my issues are? I've restarted both the modem and router, it didn't make a different, i'd like to continue using my asus router as I have all my parental controls setup on there, and other features that the sky provided router doesn't have, but obviously I can't at the speeds I was getting.

To rule out the Asus settings I'd save the configuration to a file on a PC and do a factory reset. Then try and see whether the speed has returned to normal, if so it is the setting on the Asus. Otherwise, it suggests that the modem is faulty.
