Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
I was meant to have Sky broadband fitted 25th (yesterday 8-1pm) - they didn't arrive, I simply got a text advising my appointment changed to 26th (apparently there was nothing I could do as this new date was now in the system).
The contracted company arrived today, before the engineer did any works inside or out, I asked why can’t you just use the Openreach fibre cables" he replied "different type of cables they can’t be used. He drilled holes into the house but advised he couldn’t complete the installation as he couldn't pull the cables from the top of our street, someone would be out later and left.
No one has contacted me, I rang sky and they said as it is a third-party contractor they do not have any information and I will have to wait for 3 days for the third party to advise there has been an issue (unless fingers crossed, they do send out a different team), meanwhile I have a hallway upside down so access can be gained.
On the internet it says Sky can use Openreach cables can anyone confirm this please?

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
@Giscott Which cables are you talking about? Are these the cables that you already have your broadband provided by?

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
@Giscott Do you have a separate box on the wall that is the ONT that connects to the router just now or is your broadband plugged into the telephone socket?

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
@Giscott How long where you on fibre with BT, and was it the FOD product to the 300MB/s package at the time, if so then it is NOT compatible with the current range off GPON that is used now, and requires a complete swapout of service + fibre and the ONT so really everything!

We have a separate box on the wall it doesn't go through the telephone lines (we got it installed app 2 -3 years ago and are currently still using it)

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
Putting the address into the BT Wholesale Availability Checker should indicate which broadband provisioning type is applicable.
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome
It's the table and the two text lines below it which are most useful.
Remove any personal information (such as the address itself) if you post an image.

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
' ONT exists with active service '
So for an ISP switch there shouldn't need to be any new cabling.
I haven't seen that reference to a 'Waiters list' before, though.

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
@Giscott Maybe take a photo off it and post it up for viewing. IF OR could have used it then ideally they would have and just banged a new ONT in it's place, and carried on...

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
They have now advised they cannot come back until 11/7/25... The Sky chap who rang today advised that they have a contract with City Fibre in Rugby area and therefore we have to have new cables fitted, however me being me will try and plug it in to openreach see if works otherwise give up. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Broadband Fibre Cables - use Openreach
@Giscott If you BT or EE connection is still up in the Fibre connection that you have, do not think that the sky hub will have any joy connecting as you have NO active service to them on that line. If you do find once you have done some swapping about and everything goes bye bye, just switch your ONT off, leave for an hour before you re-connect your BT/EE Router!

That's potentially correct, yes, because Sky now has a deal for carriage over CityFibre infrastructure, but would seem somewhat silly when there's already an Openreach fibre connection in place and working.
Being provisioned on CityFibre rather than Openreach would mean you gain the benefit of having a symmetrical connection.
Note that if CityFibre is indeed the carrier then plugging the Sky Hub into the Openreach ONT cannot work.
