BB outage extent South Lanarkshire

A straw poll of users affected by current BB outage in South Lanarkshire. Been out since last Friday's winds. No comms from Sky about when issue to be resolved

Openreach, not BT (who are a rival ISP). No ISP is permitted more 'clout' than any other, in order to maintain a competitive market.

Here's the thing: we had v high gusts of winds for approx 2 hours on a single day. Are there not questions regarding the resilience of kit and susceptabilty to unusual weather events that should have been addressed?

While replacing every telephone pole and overhead line with optical cable in ducting would probably have been a better national investment than HS2, unfortunately government didn't see it that way.

@mikeyb4

Sky will only be able to tell customers the information that Openreach pass to them. As you can image Openreach will have been overwhelmed with reported outages and faults as a result of the storms. All you can do is periodically contact Sky to see what they know.

Two WORKING days is the service level agreement between ISP’s and Openreach for fixing a fault, The below link explains the Ofcom agreed auto compensation scheme which Sky operates for when there is a TOTAL loss of Sky Broadband or Sky Talk for UK customers.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/auto-compensation

If you have a total loss of service and it isn’t fixed after two full WORKING days from when you notify Sky of the fault, you will become eligible for it. It’s applied 30 days after the fault has been repaired and will come in the form of a credit appearing on your Sky account (from 01/04/24 the rates are £9.76 per day).

Unfortunately there’s no such scheme in place for customers in the Republic of Ireland.

@mikeyb4 to check what is known run the service checker in the My Sky app overca mobile connection. Openreach rarely can give an estimate for when a line is going to be restored to their customers who are Sky, EE etc so dont be too surprised if it doesnt tell you anything much.

Re: BB outage extent South Lanarkshire

Get all that : info which is readilly available. Thing is: total lack of info from Sky. Would have thought they would have enough clout to get info from BT and pass on updates. Interesting to know  geographical extent of outage.

Lots of posts in the ether about how exhausted  techs struggling to restore service etc all of which is a given, and bleedin' obvious and is largely a ploy to make people feel guilty about moaning.  Here's the thing: we had v high gusts of winds for approx 2 hours on a single day. Are there not questions regarding the resilience of kit and susceptabilty to unusual weather events that should have been addressed? Asking for a friend...
