Awful service

We recently switched from Virgin to Sky.  We have no telephone signal at our house so reliable WiFi is a must.  We made sure we asked if we'd get a new cable into the house.  Sky made the switch and just plugged the hob into an old telephone socket we assumed had been disconnected years ago.  We're about a month in and are now on our third internwt outage.  They last days and nothing ever seems to get fixed.   We'd like to go back to Virgin ASAP please!

That would only happen if the address was in a location scheduled for FTTP deployment.  Openreach almost never installs new copper (or renews existing metallic circuits) these days.

Yes: that's typical for FTTC (and G.fast, but that's much rather).  FTTC is Fibre To The Cabinet (somewhere locally) and then existing copper phone cable to a socket.

You can order service from Virgin at any time: their network is completely separate from the Openreach infrastructure which Sky (and most other ISPs) use.  However to be released early from the Sky minimum contract term without facing a penalty payment you'll have to report enough faults for Sky to offer you an option to leave.

Precision is important: you do have an option to cancel within the first month.
