Alternatives to Sky Wi-Fi Max Hub
Hi,
I have nothing but trouble with the router since i moved to Sky.
Devices randomly dropping
Poor signal
Is there any 3rd party routers that are compatible and will help with these issues?
Thank you

Re: Alternatives to Sky Wi-Fi Max Hub
@azza19892 there are many third party routers you can use to connect to a Sky brosdband service. If your issue is simply poor wifi in your home the essiest solution is to keep the hub connected, disable its WiFi and buy a third party WiFi mesh system and iuse that in access point mode. This enables you to keep the digital voice line which requires a Sky hub and simplifies support as Sky's diagnostic systems still work. I use a cheap 3 unit TP-Link Deco system in this mode but there many alternatives.
Things get more coomplicated if you want to replace the Sky hub totally. First point is to determine if you need a modem as well as a router because you have a partial fibre service using a copper line you can buy combined modem routers. Next you need to think about the services you want from your new equipment as prices vary widely. Most brands can be made to connect but for simplicity I would stick with Asus
Sky in the. UK use a different connection authentication system than many other isps the 2 thry use are DHCPv6 PD which works on 80% of Openreach lines and 100% of City Fibres and DHCPv4 Option61 which works on every line. The recommendation for Asus is because they support both. You also will need to configure the settings on most routers yourself as this isnt plug and play. Ireland is different again.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode
