Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

Hi,

Im using a cisco c1117-4p and have been using it perfectly for the past 6 months, then when i come back from holiday i have no internet. I plugged in a new official sky router which i had stored in the cupboard and i have full connectivity.

So, i went through the whole rigmarole of sniffing wifi packets to get the username and password, then converted the mac addresss@skydsl and password to hex format but my interface is not coming up.

Has anything changed recently on the dslam that stops Sky customers from using their own equipment or has anyone experienced a similar issue?

As you can see below the modem line does not initialize

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

Maybe your device has died, have you tried a factory reset, or try your router forum, to see if others have any issue the same?

Also the raft for user name pass etc, has changed, and that is not needed, select option 61 and then

abc123@skydsl|123abc

Is all you need.

@stam76

If cisco require everything including @skydsl in hex and sky demand it in the form @skydsl try

'Hex-string@skydsl|hex'

Or

"Hex-string@skydsl|hex"

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

Morning stam76

I'll first be clear I'm not an engineer so all the tecno babble goes out the window.

First you said, you came back from your holiday and found no internet. Did you find out why the internet was off, i.e. power outage or even someone decided to fibre you ( even if was just fibre to the cabinet) .

I don't understand why you are running this Cisco model, I take it its for a home office.

Gut feeling you have been fibred and there is a work around , if you go on the Cisco page.

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

@stam76

Hi   the description SKY VDSL PHY is for a fibre connection, you said that you downgraded., So you have reconnected your Cisco router, if so it will need an updated configuration to get the VDSL working. Does your Cisco thing support both ADSL and VDSL. So that it will automatically switch.

Sky is very nervous about allowing 3rd party routers excess, so they will work. You will need your sky user name and password.

www.sky user.co.U.K./forum/extracting-sky-router-passwords/59028-simple-tool-extracting-username-password-your-router.html

It is a complicated how do you do and that is as about technical as I can get, the rest is beyond my understanding, check the Cisco community forum as well for more help.

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

@Sky2

I have downgraded the firmware to the original version from when i initially received the router

The SKY VDSL PHY interface is just the name i have given to the WAN port.

It is configured to accept the following  DSL modes and is currently set to auto detect.

(config-controller)#operating mode ?
adsl1 ITU G.992.1
adsl2 ITU G.992.3
adsl2+ ITU G.992.5
ansi ANSI T1.413
auto auto detect mode
vdsl2 ITU G.993.2

I'm familiar with capturing packets on a network and i have extracted the username and password from the dhcp option 61. I'm not sure if you read that this setup used to work fine (until the last few weeks).

@TrebleTA Can you elaborate on your suggestion that Sky have changed the username and password, what do you mean?

@TrebleTA

I are getting confused here, like I said I don't do techno babble, it's just Kilgon to me.

Lets go back to the beginning, right Cisco not working, reason unknown.

First check you have internet via original router, if not ring Sky and get one.

If its working and you want to use a third party's router then, this is the reason.

So, as with BT router etc and you are a Sky customer you have to set up differently as per on screen instructions.

As I said in the beginning I think your broadband been up graded and the only way to check if your Cisco product is compatible is to go to the Cisco community forum the link I have placed in a reply. These people speak Kiligon and help reconfigure that router.

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

What I was getting at, was the line sign in option.

This is what I have on my asus, different slightly.

I circled the signin part, that's all that is needed if you have VDSL2.

I would go do a sky line test, see what happens. If it passes.

Also sky use Vlan ID setting as you can see in my picture, 101 and the the  802.1P default 0. If not set the line will fail.

Re: Alternative router no longer connects to Sky

Also on the sky site, it should show your package. Yet long as your still wired to the phone socket, your still getting FTTC, only other issue is if you got updated to g.fast. that would be a 150mb line I think. Not sure I've not had g.fast. but that needs a gfast compatable device.

@TrebleTA

At my age, a lot of this is just double Dutch and I keep it pure and simple. So a comment like that is wasted on me.
