ASUS BE6500 in AP mode will deliver sub-50 mbp/s Download Speeds

Hi,

I recently bought an ASUSBE6500 Router/AP Point because I wanted a router/AP with better range than the Sky router. I have Sky 1 Gigabit Fibre to the house. I have an ONT installed. 

I have turned off the wifi on the Sky Hub Max and configured the ASUS router into Access Point mode. The issue is, when I do this, the max speed I get is less than 50 mbp/s. When I reactivate the wifi on the sky router, it is getting 200+ (My computer is upstairs.) The ethernet cable runs from LAN Port 1 on the hub to my WAN port on the new access point. 

I have tried removing the hub completely and running the BE6500 as a router and I get the same issue. 

Does anyone know I can't use the ASUS router as an access point at full speeds?

@OD1122 that is odd as in theory it should work could the Asus unit be faulty? 

While 200Mb/s msy not be as fast as your incoming connection it is more than fast enough for 99% of online activities doubling hhst speed will in practice only benefit downloading.

If you do feel you need higher speeds look at the huge range of mesh WiFi solutions like Asus Zen, Netgear Orbi or TP-Link Orbi as mutiple wifi sources give far better coverage.

@OD1122 Have you tried connecting the Asus as Lan to Lan connection! See the link below Asus is connected direct on the ONT and running at full speed!
