A good 3rd Party router recommendation and some other questions

Hi all,

I have had my Full Fibre 150 running for about 2 years now, I recently renewed my contract and was sent one of the new wifi max hubs. I spent along time messing around with it, as I didnt fully realise you lose access to the UI and the few options you are left to manage are done through the sky app. Yes terday I tried to do a simple port forward which, would have taken to minutes on my old router but the app just keeps telling me there was an error. I did eventually get the new hub setup how I want it but i`m not overlly happy with it.

So, after this I went down a bit of a rabbit hole and read a few posts on here about people using third party routers (I was under the impression if you did this you were breaking sky's T&C's but having read through it you are not it just makes support difficult)

I have looked at various posts from using PFSense and Opnsense to Unifi (I have read the dream machine posts regarding DHCPv6)

Is there a particular router or solution which works best if you want to use your own equipment? Are there any which you really should avoid?

@dunny

In my own experience Asus works the best but many work with Sky now, especially on FTTP
