The dhcp client identifier option 61 should be automatically generated when you selected sky (mer) as ip .might require a factory reset and go through QIS again.

Re: 3rd party router replacement

@cookiemonsteruk

as stated there is NO option to select sky (MER) on qis the only option i get apart from all other isp are

sky - fibre and other , so i setup as sky fiber and connected straight away with full upload and d/load speed and now its dropped this morning to 3 down 0.46 up .

after trolling the net loads say on the router like yours and mine you need to redo the wan settings as it did not ask me for a user stroke password so i have pasted the settings it let me do from qis and im not on my up and down speeds ?

hence i need to sort them out like your thread when you first got that model and asked if you get me sir ?

The client identifier needs input and that should have been done automatically.  When i set up i didn't select vdsl2 at the top i put it on auto.  That might generate the required field.  I had probs as well selecting vdsl2. I got the feeling that because i chose a specific encapsulation the router thought i knew what the identifier was.

Can you go to Administration->DSL Setting and post a screenshot of those settings, please?

The VDSL Profile type should be 17a if available or auto if not. USBO should be on, and G.vector G.993.5 should be off as the UK does not support vectoring on VDSL2.

Waiting for the screenshots to be approved. Just a quick one on the G.Vector if it has an auto setting use it. BT Openreach did do some vectoring trials on VDSL2 and that would be useful to improve speeds when enabled as the DSLAM passes that information to the modem when available in auto mode.

The picture on page 4 didn't have any information on the DSL side of stuff that I could see but later screenshot did that I requested. If the page 4 one is what you've just posted that looks okay with the exception I didn't see anything filled in for the DHCP Option 61 string but if it connects it's not an issue! 😀

Re: 3rd party router replacement

@mae-3

it signs in ok but i dont get the speeds unless the settings you said need changing ? ie old router i get 13 mef down and 1.3 up but on new i only get now 2.68 down and 0.4 up .

as stated when i first got there is no sky (MER) in isp selection i see all other isp and sky - fibre broadband or other and that makes you just manualy set the ip etc up

Re: 3rd party router replacement

@Morbious

The reason you have a drop in speed is you have enabled G.Vector when there are unfriendly none G.Vector modems on your cable bundle connected to VDSL2 DSLAM. This setting should be disabled not enabled as you have set it currently, please disable or auto the setting for G.Vector.

Re: 3rd party router replacement

Apologies for jumping in at the end of this thread with a new question.

@mae-3 I hope you don't mind me mentioning you but seems like you know the VR400

I purchased this 3 years ago and used it with previous ISP then when I got sky I didn't use it for a while, but sky router was starting to cause issues so decided to plug it in.

It's connected all fine and things are quite reliable with it which is great (using the quick start SKY(MER)_VDSL option).

But my problem is the max rate seems to be quite low, my upload rate is higher than my download. I have Super fast broadband (fibre) with sky and its about 59mb/s (anywhere around that is fine of course), but with the VR400 it seems to be capped around 18/19.

Would there be any configuration issues causing this?

I am going to leave it unplugged for a while at lunch to see if it just needed a reboot since being setup, but figured you guy's are the experts and could potentially save me hours of troubleshooting.

@Nils+and+Lynn

It looks like there may be a fault and the issue with the TP-Link is it only shows 1 of the measurements .

Are you able to connect the Sky Hub and post the stats from that, as it'll give a better idea on things.

Re: 3rd party router replacement

@Skull+Treaty thanks for the prompt reply.

Yes I can do that this evening.

Is there any page/information (from the router) in particular that I should capture?
