Re: 3rd Party Router and Sky Q Mesh
Hi Leo
read all this post so far but my issue is a frustrating one and wondered if you've experienced similar in the last year?
so I have a 3rd party fibre 2gb line. Not sky.
I have 2.5gb deco mesh throughout a 4 level house.
I've upgraded my router to a TP link 2.5gb and TP link PoE 20 port switch to manage everything in a proper comms cabinet.
my WiFi speeds are incredible, 1.5gb down and up when close to the main deco hub or 1gb worst case when everywhere else.
HOWEVER! I keep losing internet connection from my SkyQ boxes.
Setup:
Main SkyQ box i think is using WiFi as I don't think I should turn WiFi off in fear of disconnecting the minis, but I've moved a Deco node next to it and cat8 Ethernet connected it.
garden room - Ethernet into SkyQ mini. Deco mesh also in there.
basement office - SkyQ mini, I used a skybooster next to the comms and connected to that from the mini using WPS as it was struggling to find the nearest SkyQ.
kitchen; SkyQ mini, should connect to the main SkyQ in the living room.
I can't Ethernet the kitchen or office SkyQ mini.
Probelm: Even the main box disconnects sometimes randomly and the only way to get it working is to power down and restart. It's so annoying.
I suspect whilst WiFi is on the SkyQ main, it's trying to refresh and find a sky router and loses connection? But I'm stuck in a rock and hard place as don't think I can force it to Ethernet only due to the fact I can't put All boxes on wired.
anyone's help is appreciated.

Is it possible to wire all minis to their own individual TP-Link pods or direct to the router through your ethernet cabling? As far as the Sky system would be concerned, they would look like everything is hardwired so you can disable wifi on all boxes.

Re: 3rd Party Router and Sky Q Mesh
Ideally not, I'd have to buy more wall mountable Deco's for that and try hope they fit behind the TV and add power.
there isn't a route for existing house cabling to get there.

Re: 3rd Party Router and Sky Q Mesh
Fundamentally Q is now a decade old and just doesn't play nicely with non-Sky mesh hardware (because it pre-dates the widespread availability of such things)
There's no good solution other than using ethernet to the mesh nodes, or moving to Sky Stream.

Re: 3rd Party Router and Sky Q Mesh
Hi @TimmyBGood
thanks. Seems that's the ultimate dilemma. As others have said in this thread, Stream is very much a downgrade.
think I'll try a few more setup options like, turning off WiFi in the garden room, as that's Ethernet already so could prevent a loop, and then turn off 'loop detection' on the ports in my TP link switch settings against the deco nodes. If that doesn't work then I'll have to buy two new deco nodes and hardwire the SkyQ.
think we've at least established sky stream is inferior.

Yes, you'd definitely want to switch off WiFi on any Mini which is connected by ethernet cable.
1) Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control.
2) Scroll down to highlight ‘Settings’ but DO NOTpress select.
3) Press ‘001’.
4) Press ‘Select’
Then: Network -
- 2.4Ghz wireless - Off
- 5Ghz wireless - Off

I'm still on Q but I wouldn't describe Stream as "inferior", in fact it looks like only yourself who's even mentioned it on this thread so there's nothing "established".
