1.6gb now available

Hi there I regularly check to see the speeds sky offer and when 1.6gb would be available on openreach as cityfibre isnt around my area. I am wondering if anyone has gone on to the 1.6gb package with sky through openreach and how is the new sky gigafast plus hub compared with EE smart hub pro 7. Is the coverage good with the new sky router. I was only looking as there is a saving per month switching to sky 1.6gb but EE router does work and next to no downtime. It mainly boils down to router quality and customer service as all providers use the same line.

One small thing I noticed with sky's new plus router is 3 ports are 1gb and one is 10gb but if you have 1.6 package the 3 ethernet ports are essentially capped.

Appreciate any responses to help my decision.

Absolutely, but almost no consumer hardware has ethernet chipsets faster than 1Gbs.  Anyone who has a need for such things would invest in a 10Gbs switch.

Yeah most people dont have capability of getting full 1.6 speeds with hardware. If I went to would plug ethernet which goes up stairs into the 10gb port as I have a switch capable upstairs. Suppose the 1gb ports are fine for sky stream, and consoles etc.

Most domestic users massively over-estimate their need for bandwidth, given that UHD streaming only requires a maximum of around 30Mbs (and gameplay far less)

Re: 1.6gb now available

So called sky up and apparently the speed is not available but when checking online shows it is and able to order. Not sure if a system glitch potentially

@Gibbs1 it is very new so you may have to wait a couple of weeks.

One issue you may wish to considr is thst Openreach operate a GPON system where customers are connected to a passive distribution point with up to 30 connections sharing a downstream link with a bandwidth of 2.48Gb/s. The reason thst works is down to very few users ever use the bandwidth they buy and hopefully none of your neighbours are in that small minority.
