Trying to workout why you are only getting 60 percent of the speed on WiFi if you are in the same room on WiFi. I take this is a Sky Q router that you have? As those routers have been known to have poor WiFi coverage.

Do you get full coverage around your house? Seems as though the Sky Q router is not up to the job.

See how you get on with the older Sky router and if it does improve you know what the issue is.

Re: broadband speed

Sorry, I'm a little late to the party, I just wanted to share some thoughts.

Why is the Sky speed test showing a different result from the online speed tests?

They are measuring different things. Speeds that you see on Sky.com or My Sky app are measuring line speeds received by your Sky Hub. Whilst your speed test apps are measuring throughput (usually over WiFi) which can be affected by a whole host of factors - including environmental and hardware.

Our Broadband Speeds explained page offers more info which may be useful 🙂

What is my guaranteed speed?

The good news is that your 70mbps line speed is comfortably above your guaranteed line speed of ~60mbps - guaranteed speeds will vary from home to home.

Your Wi-Fi speeds will not be guaranteed unless Sky Broadband Boost is part of your subscription, it includes a WiFi Guarantee and upgraded hardware, but from what you've described, that doesn't apply here - also your 40-60 mbps WiFi speeds exceed the guaranteed minimum we'd offer

What is the impact?

Apologies if I've missed any details but you mentioned that your line runs at 70mbps and multiple devices are reporting 40-60mbps WiFi throughput speeds around your home. On the surface, these results seem fairly positive.

Again, results vary significantly from home-to-home but throughput speeds are always going to be a little slower than our line speed and WiFi will be a little slower than wired connections.

Are you experiencing pixelation/buffering? Are web pages slow to load? Does this happen on all devices?

Is Fibre Max the right package for you?

Only you can answer that, but you're likely paying more than you need to.

Fibre Max was phased out a few years ago and replaced with Sky Broadband Superfast. The prices stated for Superfast include line rental and may save you money each month - you'd need to agree to a new contract.

If you'd like to make any changes to your Sky account, our contact centre agents are the best people to speak to. 🙂

Re: broadband speed

As a general rule of thumb, wired connections are always faster than wireless and, to the best of my knowledge, the technology doesn't exist which will allow devices to receive 100% of line speed due to inherent limitations - some of our members can probably explain why.

Of course, a WiFi connection is the default preference for most people (including myself) and improved Hubs, mesh networks, boosters, and much more and always being released to provide the best possible service

ISP's will usually talk about line speed as they are reliable and predictable based on masses of data that is available. However, the WiFi speeds that our devices actually receive (WiFi throughput speeds) are easily impacted by a whole range of factors within our home, some examples include, but not limited to; router capabilities, any electrical device, foil insulation in the walls, and much much more.

These variables make it really difficult to offer anything other than generic advice as the challenges could be different in almost every home.

Re: broadband speed

Riddle me this then please, I have superfast BB but for the last 2 days I'm getting speeds like the attached pic shows.

I'm sat next to my router, if I reach out I can touch it. I have reset it and still slowest speeds ever. Its been good until last couple of days. A max of 3.4mbps uoad and 5 download is not what I am paying for.

Also the sky test says I'm getting 60+mbps, where it pulls that from I have no idea as that's not the experience I am getting.

Re: broadband speed

Just jumping on this now also.

My sky BB test is saying I should be getting 71mbs, but I have done 3 speed tests the last 3 days and have gotton nothing about 20mbs. The Sky site says everything is working as normal. I have a SkyQ box and router, both 2m apart, It has been like this since getting Sky. I often have to tether from my mobile as it's just so bad.

Is there anything that can be done? I feel the Sky speedtest guarantee is a bit of a con, not allowing you to actually test it on the Sky site. Any ideas of what I can do?
