What’s NOT on!!! Resident Alien …

So today, Wed 26 Jan 2022, Resident Alien, S02E01, is on in the USA.

this means Sky is holding it back

why we don't know and won't get told!!!

its popularity may have alerted them to the prospect that this maybe something they would want to simulcast or at least get on as soon as possible as it's US air date.

it seems a few of my friends will be watching it tomorrow (🏴☠️)

and that Sky seem to be quite happy with their delay in airing despite the options people have.

maybe Sky should be looking into having a more global view of when things should air on their channels.

This isn't the only instance of the U.K. & US not being in sync with their TV shows air dates.

youngsters these days don't have the patience nor inclination to wait for the air date of when companies like Sky decide they can watch something!!!

@seandrews  Yes because Sky can dictate to the studios when they get to air stuff.

I am just guessing here but I would not be surprised if sky release the 5 episodes of the first part of season 2 together on 17th february

There is 8 episodes in Part 1 ending on 16th of March, perhaps Sky will air the show in double bills for 3 weeks at some point to catch up ?

Re: What’s NOT on!!! Resident Alien …

Very easy to determine why Sky are "holding back" the show... they still program a linear schedule and are going to program their channels accordingly! Whether that's a box set release or double bills, they'll do what makes commercial sense for them.

At the end of the day they're a British proposition and ultimately going to worry about themselves as opposed to being held hostage by US release dates - of course some of the higher profile shows will get day & date releases but I guess if Resident Alien was that significant they'd have gone that route... obviously they think it's better served showing it from February 17th as it's currently set for.

I mean I understand why someone may not like to wait (I enjoyed season 1 and will be watching) but seems like a first world problem to me!

@seandrews

Whilst some shows do nowadays get similar release dates in different regions, it is far from universal.

I watch a few series that air in Canada first (where they are made) and often have totally finished before they air here - in fact with these the USA gets them even later than we do.

The same happens with some UK programmes  in reverse - although it has been known for some UK dramas to air in the USA before here (at least one seies of Midsommer Murders being one)

There can be all sorts  of reasons why programmes get aired at different dates

I know many would love universal releases and SKY do manage this with a few, but  they are, in reality, the minority

And are sometimes the result of the original channel insisting on it, such as the 02:00 BST Monday showings of GoT (after it got big) so that it coincided with the primetime (Sunday 21:00 EST) release of new episodes on HBO in the US.

There was a TV series Amber, which RTE made in 2011. They had sold it to various places - Scandinavia, Israel, Canada etc but only aired it here in Ireland in 2014.

The reason was under accountancy standards for TV production, until RTE showed it, they could keep showing the production costs as an asset in their accounts.

When they showed it, they then have to bring on the cost as an expense

Re: What’s NOT on!!! Resident Alien …

None of what has been said solves the problem.

Sky are seeming to be happy to kind of pseudo encourage pirates through their own perceived negligence.

I know loads of people who have seen the 1st episode of season 2.

my wait goes on......

@seandrews  Why is it such an issue that Sky are not showing Resident Alien season2  at the same time as it is being shown in the US?

It's now moved to 24th of February , will be surprised if Sky don't air all of Part 1 of S2 (8 episodes) in double bills.

@seandrews Sky are in no way encouraging piracy by not showing a series at the same time as its shown in the USA, peoples sense of self entitlement to have things instantly and disregard for law that fuels piracy.

I am loving the moral high ground on this community.

Does no one ever tell the truth.

Replies I suspect will be from those that have never ever and won't ever watch a download, or pirate, TV show or Film.

The only time it would drive some to download is because it's not comining. But it is coming. So why bother to go and find where to download when you know it's coming in less then a month?
